Causes Of Childhood Yeast Infections

Though often overlooked, yeast infections can and do occur in children, particularly if they are sick or taking any antibiotic medications. Children still in diapers have an increased risk of experiencing yeast infections due to the damp environment created in their diapers. Wet bacteria are trapped close to their skin for long periods of time.

The cause of yeast infections children, are the same as for most adults -- yeast bacteria flourishes in warm and damp environments. This makes your mouth and genital areas the ideal location for yeast infections to invade, start to grow and thrive. Taking antibiotics are among the most common cause of yeast infections in small children.

Yeast infections children are often equated with improperly caring for your child. However, this is not always the case. Many yeast infections occur in children who are very well cared for by their parents. Therefore, it is important that we know the causes of a yeast infection for children and the symptoms and methods we can use to prevent an infection from reccuring.

Causes

Because children’s immune systems are constantly developing as they build up their immunity to different environmental factors, their chances of getting a cold are much higher. Many parents in an effort to help their children get better get their children prescribed antibiotics to fight off their sickness. This is actually among the top reasons that children get a yeast infection. This is because antibiotics work by killing all bacteria in the system, both good (probiotic) and bad (yeast, etc).

Probiotic bacteria help to maintain the equilibrium between the digestive and immune systems for each individual. An absence of probiotic bacteria allows yeast to grow rampant in your digestive system. This makes it easier for yeast infections children to occur.

Common Infection Areas

There are many places on the body that yeast infections children can spring up. These areas include the child’s ears, mouth, and genitals (think diaper rashes). Sometimes there are also ailments within the digestive system. These can include excess gas, bloating, and loose stools.

Preventing Yeast Infections in Your Child

To prevent or clear up a yeast infection in your child, it is important to take measures to boost your child’s immune system. The easiest and best way to get this done is through diet. The diet of your children should consist of lots of natural foods, with vitamins and minerals. You can also try adding supplements that contain antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
